Specimens of 50,000-year-old dung from Neanderthals in Spain offer new knowledge into the eating regimen of man's terminated human cousins, another study says.
While meat was their principle wellspring of sustenance, the Neanderthals consumed a bigger number of vegetables than beforehand suspected, an examination of alleged biomarkers from the fecal specimens recommends.
The five examples found in El Salt may be the most seasoned known human fecal matter, the scientists said in the June 25 issue of the diary Plos One.
"This study speaks to the first approach to Neanderthal eating regimen through the dissection of fecal markers found in archeological dregs," said Ainara Sistiaga, of the Massachusetts Foundation of Engineering and the College of La Laguna in Spain, and associates in a diary news discharge.
Current techniques used to examine the Neanderthal eating regimen use isotopes and concentrate on the meat, which may be overemphasized, as indicated by the study creators.
They said future studies utilizing their biomarker methodology may help uncover more data about the part of vegetables in the eating regimen of these old individuals.
